"Probably the best Charles-Dickens-turned-movie you'll ever see, heck, one of the best Disney animated films, ever made" -LGOE
9.5 / 10
As far as animated films go, this is the cream of the crop. This is probably the best Charles-Dickens-turned-movie that you'll ever see, heck, it's one of the best Disney animated films, ever made. Nervous about another animated version of one of Dicken's masterpieces ("Ba Humbug!" I thought, as I entered the theatre), I left supremely impressed, not only by the stellar performance of Jim Carrey's voice acting, but of how far animated cinematography has come over the past few years.
I watched this film in "3D", meaning I was handed glasses along with the ticket stub and was expected to wear them. and the 3D did not disappoint at all. The movie truly rises above, when you watch it in 3D. The story, a brilliant Dickens novel, lends itself to both 3D and animation, with three different ghosts haunting the main character, flying him around, dangling him above breathtaking scenes, hovering him above and pushing him below, and in general showcasing to the viewer, how far both 3D and animation has come in the past few years.
One thing I did not like in the film, was the portrayal of the ghost of Christmas past. The candle-esque ghost, whose flickering flame and lingering voice was downright annoying at times, seemed entirely out of place in an animated world with much better, more developed and well thought out as well as simply prettier animations.
That having been said, both Disney and 3D animated films keep getting better and better as time goes on; and this is great news for lovers of animated films such as me. Definitely watch this one in 3D if you have the option, but make sure you watch it either way.
